Abstract

Assessing the legality of the U.S.–Israeli war against Iran involves both political judgment and legal analysis. Political considerations often shape the initial assessment. There is also no single authority that conclusively determines the legality of attacks against another State's sovereignty. Nevertheless, international law establishes rules governing the use of military force against States. The international community has strongly condemned the actions of the States involved in this war as unlawful. At the same time, Iran's response to these attacks may be considered lawful under the recognized exceptions to the prohibition on the use of force in international relations.
