Abstract

Cultural centrism is a flaw of content that undermine the credibility of any scholarly work. It is a phenomenon frequently encountered in social studies. Therefore, we deemed it necessary to draw attention to it as a warning; to this end, we first defined it and identified its forms and indicators, distinguishing it from similar or related concepts. We then examined its influence on certain « foundational » epistemological and theoretical models in Western political studies in particular, given the vast volume of such studies, as well as their nature and their value as a reference within the field. Finally, we sought to draw attention to the scholarly risks associated with cultural centrism, (and the practical implications or consequences) by identifying its sources (Religion, social affiliation, and ideology) and enumerating its most detrimental effects.
